Streaks Weekly Issue 2

September 28, 2021

Week three of the NFL season is in the books, and Sunday Night Football continued its streak of high-drama, edge-of-your-seat games—no Sunday night game has been decided by more than 2 (!) points so far. Streaks contests are also getting more competitive as the player pool continues to increase. Congratulations to Jordan from California and David from Georgia for their stellar performance last week, winning 250,000 Streaks Cash! Check out our preview of this week’s primetime games that feature compelling quarterback matchups if you want to compete with them and take home the next prize purse!

Jacksonville Jaguars at Cincinnati Bengals (Thu – 8:20 PM ET)

This game features a quarterback matchup of the two most recent first-overall draft picks in Joe Burrow (2020) and Trevor Lawrence (2021), a rematch of the 2020 college championship where Burrow led his LSU Tigers to victory over Lawrence’s Clemson Tigers. This is their first catfight at the NFL level, as both will try to emulate Simba to become the next King of the Jungle. Though Lawrence sports the more impressive mane, Burrow’s team has gotten off to a better start as he leads his Bengals towards what could be their first winning season since 2015 after dominating their division rival Steelers last week. Burrow has been reunited with his former number receiver at LSU, Ja’Marr Chase, who has quickly regained his status as Burrow’s favorite target, leading the Bengals in receiving yards (220) and touchdowns (4). Trevor Lawrence has had a rocky start to his career with 5 touchdowns to 7 interceptions so far. However, he has shown flashes of the potential that had many scouts calling him the top quarterback prospect of this generation. The Jaguars had their most competitive game of the season so far in week three, holding the lead late in the third quarter against the Arizona Cardinals.

Vegas Spread: Bengals by 7.5

Upcoming Contest Question: Joe Burrow has completed 70 percent of his passes so far this season. What will be his pass completion percentage in this game?
Burrow has made a name for himself in college by being accurate on deep throws, especially with his skill of back-shoulder placement. He has continued this trend in the NFL and is currently among the top-10 quarterbacks in completion percentage and yards per pass. Though the Jaguars upgraded their cornerback position this offseason by signing Shaquill Griffin, they have given up the 11th most fantasy points to wide receivers through three weeks, so expect Burrow to have another solid performance.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers at New England Patriots (Sun – 8:20 PM ET)

This game was circled in red as soon as the 2021 schedules were released, as Tom Brady returns to Foxborough for the first time since Bill Belichick effectively told him he was too old for a new contract. Belichick has been eating pie after last season when Brady joined Peyton Manning as the only quarterbacks to win a Superbowl with two different teams. Last week, Brady’s Buccaneers finally lost a game after 10 wins in a row dating back to last November, though it was a difficult matchup as they visited the Los Angeles Rams. The Buccaneers are road favorites this week, as they are tied with the Cardinals for the league lead with 103 total points scored. It will be difficult for the Patriots to keep pace, as they are starting rookie quarterback Mac Jones who was drafted to be Brady’s long-term replacement. Jones has a similar game to Brady as a pocket passer with accuracy and game management skills, though he has been off the mark on deep throws so far this season. This game has the potential to be the first Sunday night blowout, though if there is any coach who can craft a game plan to exploit Brady’s weaknesses, it’s Bill Belichick.
